Assam is reeling from a devastating flood with over 54 lakh people in 30 of the state’s 33 districts affected. As many as 79 people have lost their lives because of the floods to date.
The Assam floods did not only affect human life but also the animals. An area of more than 75 percent of the Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat has been submerged into water and this has led to a disaster on the survival of protected wild species.
So far, 96 animals have died and 132 animals have been rescued in Kaziranga National Park.
Quite a lot of campaigns are being run for animals however the situation in Assam will take time to get well.
A story on youtube was shared by Brut India on how animals are seeking shelters in human homes to save their lives. Some animals were fortunate enough who survived and some drained.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), reported that the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the hazard mark at a number of locations. In Assam, 30 districts are reeling beneath flood and around 54 lakh individuals are affected. Continuous reuse operations are conducted by NDRF teams and other groups.
Notably, a number of districts of Assam including Hozai, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Vishwanath, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salamada, Golpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Kamrup are affected.
